THE BURNT OFFERING 🔥

The book of Leviticus is considered cryptic by a good number of people .Well,maybe because within it are practices that are not consistent for the new covenant believer .

But , at some point I sat down and asked my self why I keep telling myself that this book is boring and I can't relate .

I remember asking the Holy Spirit to help me get it with ease and well He did  and here are my few take outs. 

Now the recurring themes in this book is mainly 

⏩ Worship 

⏩Holiness

⏩ Sacrifice 

⏩ Priesthood 

⏩ Daily Living

On Holiness , God will consistently say Be Holy because I am Holy,not as a bareer but an invite and a drawing in to be like Him . Being Holy them carriea the idea of being set apart and living as such 

So of the five stipulated sacrifices from chapter 1-7 we look at; 

             1.THE BURNT OFFERING 🔥

The law concerning this was that an animal to be offered had to be without blemish and upon being offered it had to be consumed totally .

The offering had no portion reserved for the offerer to keep or for the priest and Levites.

Its complete consumption beautifully illustrates the idea of total surrender and wholehearted devotion.

As the smoke went up it was a 'pleasing 'aroma to the Lord... Being consumed totally without reserving any parts is symbolic of surrender .

Looking at this through the lense of the new covenant ,we first establish the fulfilment of this offering in Christ  in this;

💛HE OFFERED HIMSELF FULLY TO GOD' WITHOUT SIN 

       Ephesiana 5:2 he has given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

       Hebrews 10:12

🤎All the effort that was put to offer and sacrifices annually in the old testament didn't take away sin but IN CHRIST , He did it ONCE and for all .

💛HE SURRENDERED FULLY TO GOD'S WILL

John 3:34

Phillipians  2:6-8

Luke 22:42

🤎All these was him in total surrender to the Will of the Father.Pleasing the Father was His first priority .

💛HE WAS BOTH THE SACRIFICE AND THE PRIEST

🤎By this He is Both the Mediator and Great High Priest of the BETTER COVENANT 

While the burnt offering was pointing to Christ , there's need for us to also see that Now that we are in the new covenant God is not a far off , He is Christ in Us and that's the TREASURE we have in our earthen vessels and that calls for a devoted life .

God being in us makes us the temple of God 1 Cor 3:16  for we know that our lives are not ours for we have been purchased by His blood . We have been set apart /consecrated to God for Good works .

While we understand the very freedom we have He also wants us to offer our bodies as living sacrifice,holy and acceptable to Him,not out of coercion but love.

Our call today is ,let us Walk worthy of the calling to which He has Called you and let the reverence for God steer your motives and inclinations because our consecration is our response to His Finished Work ✨
